Lighting is essential for everyday operations in your barn. It may seem obvious that you need lights because you have to see what you're doing, but barn lighting is more than that! Benefits of Galvanized Outdoor Barn Light

Long-Lasting
LED lights' lifespan makes them an excellent option for barn lighting. LED light can last for over 50,000 hours, which is more than half of the lifespan of other traditional light bulbs.

Low Maintenance
LED barn lights require low maintenance. They outlive traditional lights, so you might not replace them very often.

No Warm-Up Time
LED lights come on instantly to full capacity, which makes them very efficient for lighting. While warming up, fluorescent lights flicker, which could be uncomfortable for animals, especially poultry animals, as they can easily detect light flickers.

Brightness
LED barn lights are bright, so not much is needed to light up the whole barn. When bright light is not needed, dimmable LED lights can be dimmed to reduce the intensity.

Weather Resistant
Unlike some traditional lights like the halogen bulb, LED lights are not affected by the cold. They are also barely affected by other elements.

Smart Dimming Features
LED lights are versatile, and for barn lighting, this is of great advantage. Smart Dimming technologies can be installed on them to manage light output better.
The photocell light control technology works well with LEDs. You could program the light to off during the day and come up at night. Using smart features will save a lot of energy and prevent waste.

Saves Energy
Unlike the incandescent bulb, which has to heat the filament before the light is produced, LEDs are made of diodes. Since they don't produce much heat, there's less energy waste. LED lights reduce the cost of electricity bills.

Types of Maintain Galvanized Outdoor Barn Light

Classic Barn Light

This barn light fixture comes with an S-shaped wall-mounting arm that is connected to a round headed fixture. While there are many styles available, the head and lens typically directs light down towards the ground, they are often called yard lights as they are commonly used off garages and structures to light the yard.

Gooseneck Barn Lights

These lighting fixtures use a curved arm known as a gooseneck light. The arm acts as an extension of the shade from the wall to illuminate surfaces below which makes this lighting fixture the preferred choice for larger areas such as warehouses, entryways, residential and commercial building exteriors and over garage doors. The higher the light installation and the further the gooseneck arm pulls the light away from the wall, the more the surface area the fixture lights up below it.

Barn Light Sconces

These lights are similar to the Gooseneck barn lights, but, feature a shade with a much shorter gooseneck arm. Owing to the reduced length of the arm, a smaller shade is needed to avoid hitting the wall during the installation process. These types of barn lights are ideal for lighting up smaller areas and rooms, and offering more ambient light. It is therefore suitable for such areas as doorways, bathroom vanities, columns and posts, and common areas.

Sign Lights

These barn lights include a unique swivel joint, which makes it possible for the shade to rotate in a 180 degrees arch, and come paired with a gooseneck arm allowing the fixture to rotate away from or towards a wall. Drawing attention to your business with sign lighting is a good and common practice. These types of barn lights are also ideal for lighting up a billboard, A-frame sign or a storefront. Some can be solar powered sign lights.

Pendant Barn Lights

These barn lights offer a unique way to light up large interior rooms and other focused areas such as kitchen islands and over tables. Normally, pedants hang on a braided cord restricting them to interior locations only. However, they may be paired with a downrod, securing them from high winds and making them water tight for wet locations. Before the installation of an exterior pedant, it is recommended to check with the manufacturer of the light to guarantee that it is suitable for the location. When installed outside, they are ideal for the illumination of such areas as outdoors grills and BBQ, patios, bars and seating areas.

Barn Light Post Lamps

These types of barn lighting fixtures allows you to offer a cohesive and polished look all over the property. They bring a variety of shade styles and colors to an 8-foot or 11-foot tall post. Ideally, they provide sufficient light in decks, outdoor seating, parking lots, landscaping, docks, paths and walkways among other locations.

Straight Arm Lights

These barn lights have mounts that resemble a "straight arm". They can be industrial lights off rigid pipe or designer and a pleasantly charming addition to barns, laundry rooms and porches.

HOW TO HANG A BARN LIGHT

Turn off the power at the circuit breaker. (It's a good idea to turn the light on before you turn off the circuit. Then you can visually verify that the power is indeed turned off to the light.)

Unscrew the cover off of the flood light (or whatever fixture you are replacing.) Pull the wires out of the junction box. Unscrew the wire nuts. Discard or recycle the old fixture and throw away the old wire nuts.

The gooseneck barn light comes with a face plate, a shade, and the gooseneck arm. All light fixtures have a white and black wire (together they provide the power); and a green wire (the ground wire). Thread the wires through the goose neck arm and the face plate (if not already threaded through). One end of the gooseneck arm is threaded and will attach to the shade. Wrap the threaded end of the goose neck arm with plumber's tape (to prevent water from getting into the fixture.) Screw the threaded end into the shade. The other end is held into the face plate with a hex screw.

Cut the excess wires with the wire cutter. Using the wire stripping tool, remove approximately 1″ of the wire covering from each wire.

Holding the fixture close to the junction box, connect the green ground wire from the light fixture with the green or bare wire from the junction box. Connect the white with the white wire and finally the black with the black wire. Secure all the connections with new wire nuts.

Gently fold the wires into the junction box behind the face plate or mounting plate. Lift the light fixture into place against the wall. Thread the two mounting screws through the holes in the mounting plate and into the junction box. Tighten the mounting screws.

Top Maintenance Tips for Barn Lighting Fixtures

Maintaining the lighting fixtures in your barn is essential to ensure a safe and well-lit environment for your animals or workspace. By following these simple steps, you'll not only prolong the lifespan of your fixtures but also save yourself from potential hazards down the line.

1

Dust regularly
To keep your barn lighting fixtures looking their best, it's important to dust them regularly. Dust can accumulate on the surfaces of fixtures and make them appear dull and dirty. Use a soft cloth or duster to gently wipe away the dust from the fixtures. Avoid using abrasive cleaners as they can scratch the surfaces and damage the finish of the fixtures.

2

Use a soft cloth or duster
When cleaning your barn lighting fixtures, it's important to use a soft cloth or duster. These tools are gentle on the surfaces of the fixtures and won't cause any damage. Avoid using rough materials or scrub brushes, as they can scratch the fixtures and leave them looking worn and damaged.

3

Avoid abrasive cleaners
When cleaning your barn lighting fixtures, it's best to avoid using abrasive cleaners. These cleaners can be harsh on the surfaces of the fixtures and can strip away the protective coating, causing the fixtures to lose their shine and become more susceptible to damage. Opt for mild cleaning solutions or simply use a soft cloth and warm, soapy water to gently clean the fixtures.

4

Clean glass and lampshades separately
To ensure a thorough cleaning of your barn lighting fixtures, it's important to clean the glass and lampshades separately. This allows you to focus on each component individually and ensure that all areas are properly cleaned. Use a glass cleaner specifically designed for glass surfaces and a mild detergent for the lampshades. Be sure to dry all components thoroughly before reassembling the fixtures.

5

Check for loose or damaged parts
Regular inspections of your barn lighting fixtures are crucial to ensure their proper functioning and safety. Check for any loose or damaged parts, such as screws, bolts, or wires. Tighten any loose connections and replace any damaged parts to prevent further issues.

6

Look for signs of rust or corrosion
Rust and corrosion can not only affect the appearance of your barn lighting fixtures but also compromise their functionality. During the inspection, carefully examine all metal parts for any signs of rust or corrosion. If you notice any, it's important to address them promptly to prevent further damage and potential safety hazards.

7

Ensure proper connections and wiring
Proper connections and wiring are essential for the safe operation of your barn lighting fixtures. During the inspection, make sure that all connections are secure and that there are no exposed wires. If you notice any loose or frayed wires, it's important to fix them immediately to prevent electrical hazards.

8

Examine bulbs and sockets for any issues
The bulbs and sockets are crucial components of your barn lighting fixtures. During the inspection, closely examine the bulbs for any signs of damage or flickering. Replace any faulty bulbs to ensure optimal lighting. Additionally, check the sockets for any signs of wear or damage. If you notice any issues, it's important to address them promptly to prevent electrical problems.
