Components of Garden Lamp Post Light

Foundation
The invisible section of a lighting post is the foundation. This part is buried in the ground and works as a house basement to keep the whole post light stable over external factors.

Body
The lamppost body includes the pole and the base sections. The lamp base is often cast from cast iron material aiming at supporting and withstanding the weight of the upper parts. The rod iron post is usually made of aluminum, cast iron, or stainless steel. The pole often taller twice to several times than the lighting post base depending on the typical lamppost models.

Top (Lighting)
The top part includes bulb, lighting arm, and ornaments. The design for this section comes in a variety of styles. The cast iron lamp is mounted on top with lighting cover.

What Should Be Consider When You Choose Garden Lamp Post Light

Height
The height of the lamp post will determine the coverage of the light. Consider the height of your home and other structures in your yard to determine the appropriate height.

Style
Lamp posts come in a range of styles, from traditional to modern. Choose a style that complements your home's architecture and your personal taste.

Material
Lamp posts can be made from various materials, including aluminum, steel, and cast iron. Consider the durability and maintenance requirements of each material.

Mounting
Decide whether you want a direct burial or surface-mounted lamp post. Direct burial lamp posts are buried directly in the ground, while surface-mounted posts are secured to a base or platform. Direct burial lamp posts tend to stand up straighter and are less affected by factors such as wind.

Extra Features
If having another source of power in your yard is important to you, consider a lamp post with a built-in electrical outlet. Since you're running power to the post anyway, adding a convenience outlet is an easy step to take. Some lamp posts come with a photo eye as well. This allows the light to take on a dusk to dawn feature, turning on at night and off during the daytime.

Different Materials of Garden Lamp Post Light and How to Maintain Them

Copper
All copper items are finished with a surface layer of wet lacquer, which provides a protective layer which will break down over time, allowing the copper to gradually patina when exposed to the elements. This patina process will be accelerated when the copper reacts to chemicals and salt content in the air. The once polished copper finish will therefore age with a rich dark green color. If you would like to preserve the polished copper finish appearance, we recommend the use of yacht varnish, which should be applied annually or as required.

Brass and Antique Brass
Coated with a lacquer, brass does not age in the same way copper does, however it will dull and tarnish over time. With regular cleaning with a damp cloth or specific treatment solutions and finished with a yacht varnish, it will preserve the finish. Please note, chemical cleaning products and agents should not be used as it will break down the protective lacquer coating, allowing the brass to become susceptible to the elements.

Polished Nickel & Bright Chrome
With polished nickel, this these finishes are laid over brass, and will age over time when exposed to the outside elements, creating a dull tone to the once initial highly mirrored shine. This rate of aging will be affected by pollution levels, the proximity to the coast and other factors such as humidity and high temperatures. To keep the highly polished finish, light cleaning with a damp cloth will be required annually or when required to remove dirt and watermarks. It is best to use specialist products with the use of a soft cloth, however, with most metals, the signs of aging over time are generally unescapable but can be preserved.

Cast Iron
Cast iron requires as little or as much maintenance depending on your personal preference. By nature, cast iron will naturally patina and age over time, this surface rust will not affect the structural integrity of the piece. If finished in a painted finish, this will require annual maintenance to remain in a 'like-new' condition and to seal any chips or scratches with a metal-based paint of your choice.

Aluminum (die-cast)
Die-cast aluminum is a lightweight method of creating highly detailed items without high material or delivery costs. Whilst die-cast aluminum will not rust in the same way as iron, a white powdery substance will appear on the surface where the bare aluminum is starting to oxidize. We recommend maintaining die-cast aluminum frequently ensuring it always has complete coverage.

Cast Aluminum
Cast aluminum offers advantages over both die-cast aluminum and cast iron. Aluminum requires little maintenance as it does not rust or corrode in the same way as other metals. However, if left untreated, grime and dirt built-up can occur on the surface of the metal. To avoid this, regularly clean using a damp cloth. In order to keep your item in a "like-new" condition, we recommend repainting annually or as and when required. We do not recommend using a metal-based paint on aluminum products or pieces. Instead, we advise that your product is sanded down using a wire brush to ensure that all loose paint and powder is fully removed. We then advise three coats of Multi-Surface Paint (available from most good hardware stores) mixed to your desired shade. Please ensure that any green algae is removed before re-painting. When handling aluminum products, be careful of scraping them against any sharp items as this will damage or scratch the surface of the metal.

There is a variety of outdoor lighting post light, so make sure you choose the right one for your curb appeal. First, plan in your mind what is your purpose? You need a functional lamp post light for the only illumination or you care more about the decorative property. Depending on your need, you can consider different model, design and height for your application. The material is also very important because it decides the quality's lamp post. We recommend to use cast iron lamp post to ensure the quality and also the appearance.

Step 2: Choose the Place to Install the Lamp Post Light
When you got your lamppost in your hand, the next step is to decide where to place the post lighting to provide not only enough illumination but also eye-catching at the first sight. And also don't forget to choose where you can easy to connect to power lines.

Almost lamp posts require the foundation, or often called footer buried underground to stabilize the lighting fixture. Use a posthole digger or round shovel to dig the hole. Make a hole with 30cm diameter and 60cm deep. Also, you will need a trench to line the power supply with the lighting post. We recommend you should trench a line which nearest the power supplier to the lighting fixture. The trench should deep at least 30cm and provide enough wide to insert the conduit. After that, use a piece of plywood to separate the footer from the trench. Don't forget to drill a hole in the plywood block. Make sure the drill hole is wide enough for the conduit to fit through.

Step 4: Install the Conduit
Install the conduit in the trench and post hole. The conduit will protect the electrical line for the outdoor lamppost from being moisture when place underground. We recommend you use a gray PVC electrical grade pipe. If there are any turns in the line, use 45-degree angle or 90-degree couplings to make the connection.

Step 5: Place Anchor Bolts and Conduit
Prepare plywood that is wider than your foundation hole more than 20cm. Drill the hole in the plywood for the conduit and anchor bolts fit through. Next, place the anchor bolts and screw nuts onto the ends, suspending them into the foundation. Install stakes around the edges of the plywood to anchor it to after pouring the concrete. Place anchor bolts and conduit to the pad

Step 6: Pour the Concrete
You can use a concrete mixer or manual mixing. Next, pour concrete mixture into the hole. Make sure the hole is filled uniformly and evenly. Place the plywood and anchor it with the stake you installed in step 5. Place the anchor bolts and make sure that they are straight vertically and firmly position in the concrete. Allow the concrete dry for half to a day.

Step 7: Insert the Lamp Post and Connect the Wiring
Once the concrete is hard, remove the nuts from the anchor bolts and replace the plywood template by the lamppost basement. Remove the pad from bolts and conduit. Position the anchor bolts in the lamppost base. After that, attach the lamp to the pole. Connect the wiring through the conduit to the lamppost fixture. Connect the wiring to lamppost

Step 8: Check How Lamppost Light Work
Make sure the Lamp post light works well. To step 7, the work is done, but you have to check again how the lamppost works. Complete an assessment as a whole to ensure everything is secure and safe.
